Education in Bhopal: Landscape, Scenario and Scope
Bhopal, the Capital of Madhya Pradesh is known as ‘the City of Lakes’. It is the 16th largest city in India and 131st in the world. Many government and corporate offices are situated here. Since people from different places come here for work with government and corporate, to fill the gap here is available educational institutes in different categories preferably to suit every budget. Here you can find educational institutes; both schools and colleges completely free or with very less fees and also many with capitation fees. This variance is existing and necessary to educate everyone whether a native or an expat in Bhopal.
Typically education in a child’s life in Bhopal works like follows:
- Age: 2 year and 6 month to 5 year- Play School
- Age: 5 year to 19 year – Formal School Education (K-1 to K-12)
- Age: 19 year and above- College Education and Higher
The education policy of Bhopal city is same and defined by Government of Madhya Pradesh State. While centrally funded institutions may have to follow policies of Central Government as well as Government of State.
Bhopal has more than 550 state-sponsored schools, are affiliated to the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE). In addition, there are three Kendriya Vidyalayas in the city. The city is also served by numerous other private schools affiliated to either CBSE, ICSE, MPBSE, NIOS and CIE (Cambridge)
School education in Bhopal is available in Hindi, Urdu and English. College education is available in major study disciplines. Both 3 and 4 year college programmes are offered. The university classes are primarily delivered in English. However, lots depend on subject you chose to study.
College Admission session for Universities and University Affiliated Colleges normally starts from April/May. Academic session begins in July. Also for post graduate programmes universities opens admission window in April/May but is certain cases like MBA, PhD etc admission may also open in November/December for January intake.
Being Capital city and home to corporate houses Bhopal has an advantage in education and job sector. The city is home to some of the top institutes for higher education in India. For example; AIIMS Bhopal, ABVHV: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Indian Institute of Forest Management, IISER Bhopal, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal, NITTTR Bhopal, National Law Institute University Bhopal, School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal are some of them. A large pool of young students comes here to study from all over India. Number of applicants applying to Under Graduate programmes is huge. You need very good academic records to get through a best programme.
